Natural & Organic Skincare

As the cold weather leaving us, I can’t help but wonder what’s the best way to bring the dry winter skin back to life?

I have discovered the beauty of using natural or organic spa & bath products for my skin.  My body benefits from the therapeutic and premium ingredients of a line of skincare products of Pharmacopic.  All their bath and body products are paraben-free and vegan.  Their holistic approach to personal care promotes health and wellness inside and out by combining herbs and unique blends of antioxidants, vitamins and premium essential oils to help your skin young and healthy, naturally.

One of my favorites is ‘Body Basics’ Spa Gift Set.   The citrus scent of this Body Wash can also be used as shampoo.  I feel refreshed after a great morning shower and what a way to start the day.

By the mid afternoon, do you feel tired from the hectic work load as me?  So I take breaks to ‘reboot’ myself and dab a little Lavender Body Lotion from the Go & Relax Spa Gift Set on my hands and around the temples.  What a great way to relax from the stress through the day.  For centuries, lavender has been cultivated for its soothing and healing properties.  This body lotion suits me well.  It nourishes and soothes my skin with avocado oils and essential oils.

For the cooler nights, I use the Rosemary Bath Salts to relieve sore muscle aches at the end of the day.  Putting on my favorite music CD from The Healing Garden, light a soy candle and enjoy a fabulous soak.  This therapeutic bath salts draw out impurities and relax my body for a home spa hydrotherapy experience.

Natural and Organic body care and skincare products – good for your body and kind to Mother Earth!

Bring your skin back to life

Anyone who had the chance to visit the Dead Sea Beach in Israel would tell you their amazing experience with the ‘First Spa Resort in the World’, and so would I several months ago.

The Dead Sea is really a saline lake.  It is located 400 meters (1,300 feet) below sea level and is the lowest point on the surface of the earth.  The waters of the Dead Sea are unique, not just by having a total salt concentration that is ten times higher than ocean water, but also by its unique composition.  I learned a lot from one the incredible places I have ever been.

Since ancient times, the medical healing properties of the Dead Sea have been well-known.  I read that Queen Cleopatra was well aware of the miraculous influence of the minerals and used the salts and mud from the Dead Sea to regain her youth.

The Dead Sea is an ideal spot for many people who seek relief from skin and rheumatic disorders.  Modern medical researches confirm that these Spa-Bath and Body Products have healing properties.  Many skin allergies such as psoriasis and eczema may be helped by using Dead Sea minerals.  If you don’t have the opportunity to visit this ‘First Resort of the World’, you can enjoy these benefits by purchasing from the many skincare products out there.  Buyer beware!  You should purchase from reliable sources to avoid getting garden mud in your face.

Though I have brought back several Dead Sea beauty skincare products and now enjoy them in the privacy of my own home, but it was that special fun experience when you smearing the black mud on your face and body as you float on the well known Dead Sea. Don’t fret for those non-swimmers…you just float…like sitting on the invisible chair in the middle of the lake!

How divine!  Everyone felt like a kid that day…laughing and giggling as we played with the soft black mud, the salty water feels oily and slippery on your skin due to all the minerals in the Dead Sea water.  My skin felt extra soft and supple, and my body was so relaxed afterwards.

Nothing can awaken your best skin like these special spa products of Dead Sea Black Mud and Dead Sea Bath Salts.  You’ll experience a healthy luminosity form the finest Spa resource in the world.

Bring your skin back to life with the rich minerals of the Dead Sea!

The Origin of Valentine's Day

By now, you probably have already received tons of advertisements and email marketing regarding Valentine’s Day.  Not to mention that your loved ones keep reminding you this date, February 14th.

So, what’s the origin of this holiday?  Valentine’s Day, short for Saint Valentine’s day was established to celebrate love and affection between intimate companions.  It was named after one or more early Christian martyrs named Valentine and was established by Pope Gelasius I in 496 AD.  It is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as “valentines”).

Well, in our modern days, the Valentine’s Day symbols include the heart-shaped outline, flowers especially roses which represent love, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have largely given way to mass-produced greeting cards.

In the USA, Miss Esther Howland is given credit for sending the first valentine cards. Commercial valentines were introduced in the 1800’s and now the date is very commercialized.

Many countries around the world has its own celebrations.  n France, a traditionally Catholic country, Valentine’s Day is known simply as “Saint Valentin”, and is celebrated in similar ways as other western countries.

In Spain, this holiday is known as “San Valentín” and is celebrated the same way as in the U.K, although in Cataloniait is largely superseded by similar festivities of rose and/or book giving on La Diada de Sant Jordi (Saint George’s Day).

Hundreds of years ago in England, many children dressed up as adults on Valentine’s Day. They went singing from home to home. One verse they sang was:

Good morning to you, valentine;
Curl your locks as I do mine…
Two before and three behind.
Good morning to you, valentine.

In Portugal, Valentine’s day is more commonly referred to as “Dia dos Namorados”  or “Boy/Girlfriend’s Day”. Though it is not an official holiday in Sweden, the day is called Alla hjärtans dag (“All Hearts’ Day”) and was launched in the 1960s by the flower industry’s commercial interests.  The sales of flowers and cosmetics for All Hearts’ Day are only exceeded by those for Mother’s Day.

While in Denmark and Norway, this date is known as Valentinsdag. It is not celebrated to a large extent, but many people celebrate with a romantic dinner with their partner, to send a card to a secret love or give a red rose to their loved one.

As I read that there are similar Asian traditions for this particular date.  In Chinese culture, there is an older observance related to lovers, called “The Night of Sevens”.  According to the legend, the Cowherd star and the Weaver Maid star are normally separated by the milky way (silvery river) but are allowed to meet by crossing it on the 7th day of the 7th month of the Chinese calendar.

Many of us do believe that everyday should be Valentine’s Day, but if you have already made plans for a romantic dinner for two, or sending your sweetheart for a relaxing Spa Day or pampering Spa Gift Basket, go ahead and make this date just a little more special!

Happy Valentine’s Day & enjoy!

February is American Heart Month

Whenever February rolls around, I think of the color red which associates with the American Heart Month, and Valentine’s Day.  Better lifestyle habits can help us reduce our risk for heart attack, and maintain our wellness program.

Go Red & Give - Donate today and help save lives!  Help the American Heart Association to raise $100,000 by Feb.12 for critical research and outreach programs.

Naturally, there are other health awareness events connected to the month of February.  Campbell Soup Company is launching the fourth year of its heart-health campaign with a personal touch.  It sponsored the Project Runway challenge as part of the company’s AdDress Your Heart” campaign, which has enlisted top fashion designers for the last four years to create Campbell red dresses. The red dress is the celebrated symbol for women’s heart health. The company’s campaign has also pledged to donate more than $3.6 million to the AHA by 2012.

Tim Gunn was moved by the stories and the inspired designs. “These women truly are role models and should be proud of all that they have accomplished in their fight against heart disease,” said Gunn. “They certainly ‘make it work’ on and off the runway.”

Heart disease survivor, Nadine Jenkins from East Orange, N.J., makes heart health fashionable as she walks the runway during the Project Runway “Design Your Heart Out” episode.  The winner designer, Sarabi and Jenkins will join Tim Gunn on the red carpet at the Woman’s Day Red Dress Awards in New York City on Feb. 10, 2010. In addition, a limited edition replica of Sarabi’s winning dress will be sold on ProjectRunway.com with proceeds benefiting the American Heart Association

Sturebadet Spa, Sweden

I read a lot about the Sturebadet Spa in Stockholm and thought that I must get a traditional Swedish Massage while I was there.  This is one of the oldest spa in Sweden and located in the heart of town, at a busy Sturegallerian shopping complex.

Founded by a medical doctor, Carl Curman in 1885, this spa was created as a communal bathhouse.  His innovative concepts regarding bathing therapy was to encourage the people in Stockholm to promote good health and wellness through exercise and many forms of bathing.

Nowadays, I can see the locals going into this modern spa for a relaxing spa treatments, or any of the exercise workouts during their lunch hours.

The spa offers more than massages, you can get state of the art exercise facilities in the gym, personal training sessions as well as aquarobics and Yoga.  I received one of my best facials along with their spa products in Sturbadet.  My massage therapist managed to release my kinks and pains from my hectic travels.  I felt that my stress melted away quickly.

One of my favorite spots of the spa is the gorgeous swimming pool.  Built in 1902 with beautiful Moorish tiles which blends with Art Nouveau style.  Sturebadet has a separate Turkish Bathing area which was loved by Greta Garbo back in the 1920’s.

I also heard that the cafe serves one of the best breakfast in town.  More reason to return to Sturebadet on my next trip.

Restful Sleep

Did you have a restful sleep last night?
Most of us don’t and have experienced the next-day consequences of sleep loss.
You know what I am talking about.  Your body drags and your skin sags.
You can’t think straight and focus on your work.  Your creativity is dulled, and you feel grumpy and clumsy.

More than any designer moisturizer or spa products, a solid restful sleep does wonders not only for your complexion but for the health and well-being of your body, mind, and soul.  Sleep is the number one overnight rejuvenator.  Here are some simple steps to get you that restful slumber.

Stay away from Sleep Stealers
*Exercise early – Avoid doing it too close to bedtime
*Avoid large meals and alcohol within 6 hours of bedtime
*Avoid caffeine in the evening – Have your Cup of Joe before mid afternoon
*Power naps – Keep daytime nap under 15 minutes
*Do the To-Do list – Prepares the day ahead, leave worries behind

Power down & unwind
*Log off, Text off, Twitter off – Put your Blackberry to rest, shut off other technology including the TV few hours before bedtime
*Take a nice soak – A warm bath with Lavender Herbal Bath Powder before bedtime puts you in a relaxing state
*Mediation – Clears your mind, relaxes your body
*Have a cup of chamomile tea – Grandma is right about its tranquilizing effects
*Keep cool – Set your bedroom around 65F.  Leave it dark and quiet, and cover light sources such as clock radio, or phones.
*Cover Up – wear Sleep mask to shield off light
*Lavender Aromatherapy – spritz on your pillow case, or keep a lavender sachet by your bedside, this soothing scent relaxes your senses and lulls you to sleep

Enjoy & Good Night!
